ABOUT KATHRYN
Kathryn Drey serves as Senior Counsel with My Church Law Firm. Mrs. Drey has practiced law for over twenty-eight years, representing a diverse group of employers and stakeholders across the United States with a special focus on mission-oriented entities.
Kathryn brings a diverse legal background, representing individuals, businesses of myriad sizes, and government entities at all stages of litigation. Her practice experience includes large and small firms, in-house counsel roles, and serving as an Assistant United States Attorney and Civil Chief. Kathryn focuses her practice on thoughtful, pragmatic solutions for sensitive issues delivered on time and with a keen sensitivity to client resources.
Kathryn graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (with Honors) and earned her law degree from Tulane School of Law in 1996. Kathryn is a member of the Alabama and Florida Bar Associations and has been a member of numerous legal organizations, including the National Association of College and University Attorney and American Inns of Court.
Additionally, Kathryn has taught on the collegiate level and has served as legal counsel to numerous community boards. Through this experience, Kathryn learned firsthand the delicate balancing act faced by mission-oriented entities trying to build long-term sustainable missions in a real-world environment and the need for strategic problem-solving at every stage.
Kathryn regularly helps organizations with their litigation, transactional, and governance needs, including: effective, disciplined litigation; sophisticated and nuanced transactional support; and, all aspects of effective governance from initial incorporation documents through developing policies and procedures, staff training, and investigations. Kathryn also has substantial experience in constitutional matters, real estate transactions, intellectual property, and foreign operations.
Outside of practicing law, Kathryn is married to Owen Drey and is blessed with four children, Elizabeth, Margaret, Lauren, and Gaines, two sons-in-law, one grandson, William, and a lab named Lucy. Kathryn and her family are regular parishioners at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile, Alabama. Kathryn enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, and being outside along the beautiful bayous on the coast of South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Kathryn is frequently humbled by her clients’ trust in her to help guide them through their vital work and believes these client relationships are both a privilege and an honor.
